I have pasted photos on an Open-Office text document and would like to render one picture transparent to a certain degree in order to insert text of a book title. But the transparency button on the picture bar does not work. How can I activate the transparency function?
Thanks for any hints.

I think you have docked the picture toolbar which contains the control for
transparency on the left or on the right. In this case the control is not
working as you are describing.
This control is a spin field which does not work when the corresponding toolbar
is docked on the left or right.

To get the transparency control working again just pick the toolbar and let it
floating or dock it on the top or on the bottom.

Best regards, Oliver.

Just a guess, but some image formats (like jpeg) don't support
transparency. Perhaps the transparency function is automatically disabled.
Try converting to a format that supports transparency before inserting the
image. (.png and .gif support transparency, among others)
-Cheers

The transparency setting is independent from the format of the intrinsic
graphic/image.

Halo Manfred,

When you directly insert the image to a writer file there is no option
to control the transparency level of the graphic.

However - if you insert instead a Frame where you want your graphic
first, then set the background property of the frame to your image the
transparency function is available. Normally you would also set the
property 'Type' to 'Area' also, but as you will see you have plenty of
choices for ways to go then.

Hope that helps,

oops - well that is wrong - see Oliver's email from earlier he has it
correct.
